Temperature reports of 30F from northern Maine this morning. No frost here, yet, but the moving finger writes....

It was in the fifties here (Boston area) in the dark morning hours. If only it would stay in the fifties all day. I'm not ready for the thirties yet, but give me a nice long fall of chilly nights and cool days. As the light wanes and the temperature drops, I want to write again -- leaving behind the summer where words were not to be written, but merely shouted before diving into the waves.

I've noticed the first sign of autumn here in East Tennessee: Heavy morning fog without a corresponding rain the night before.

Mmm. Frost.

Can I come sleep under your porch for a couple of weeks?

Well, the front porch is a work in progress. You might find it noisy and drafty at this point. (See other posts on construction WIP.)

I'm sure we could find a Bear den out in the woods somewhere, though. Come on over.

I think Autumn is the best season in New England -- comfortable weather, no bugs, beautiful fall color. Just enough nip to the mornings to wake me up and get the juices flowing.

*sigh* Ah the temptation.

Are you guys getting any color yet? I'm so homesick I could curl up and whimper.

Or colour for the Canadian delegation....

The swamp maples are turning red, and some of the upland trees are starting to show a bit of change. Peak leaf-peeper season won't come for maybe a month, plus/minus depending on which species you really pine for.

I was really surprised when I was in Connecticut to see sugar maples already going orange at the edges in late August. Dry summer?

Dry summer? Uh, no. Cool and damp, at least 'round here.
