Sunday roadkill report

Roadside corpses -- muskrat, porcupine, garter snake. Also found a mini-Leatherman-type tool on the shoulder of the road. Still seems usable, but it's a cheapy-cheapy copy.
We had clouds and rain early, so I got out on the bike while the getting was good. Upriver to the next bridge, down the other side of the river, then turned off east and climbed some hills. Reached the point where I could see my shadow and split for home before the sun came out in all his fury. Still ended up soaked from the inside out.
Part of my route reversed the Paul Bunyan Marathon, so I got to count other sweaty people for a few miles. This being a local event, the range of talent seemed excessive. Like, two heavy-duty runners in the lead, a mile, one runner, a half mile, another pair of runners (one woman), a hundred yards further to a hand-cyclist, etc. Didn't get into anything like a steady stream of runners until about mile six for me, or mile twenty for them.
Non-roadkill oddity across the river -- just after I turned to head back home, I met a bobwhite quail on the edge of the roadside berm. I have to assume it was an escapee, either pet or meat-farmed. Their range doesn't extend this far north. Probably fox-fodder.

Date: 2006-07-16 05:44 pm (UTC)Did see a big gopher turtle trundling off on some turtle-task.
Musk-melons.
A horse.
Nothing else.
WAIT! I saw a guy on this...this thingy. It has 3 wheels and handlebars. It has no seat but rails for your feet. The motion looks like inline skating, a side to side motion. I wonder what it was? I wonder if he can go uphills?

Actually, some municipalities clean up roadkill. I've seen it happen. Messes with my count.
No idea what your "contraption" might be.
