Did my first walk-through of that new downtown reconstruction project. Pigeonville. Absentee landlord who let things go until the roof leaks became evident on the first floor of a four-story building. Piping for gas lights still in place, valves and all*. Surface-mounted knob-and-tube wiring running across tin ceilings...

Architectural archeology, here we come!

Owner (_new_ owner, not the absentee guy) understands the definition of "gut remodel" and has already signed on with the specialist contractor that I've worked with on several similar projects. Insert glyph of relief here.

*Also 1900-vintage open-burner gas cookstoves in two locations, good thing the coal-gas plant shut down back in the 1950s or the whole place could have gone boom long since, like that building in New York.

Younger Son and Girlfriend have reported in from Major Eastern University. No alarums or excursions.

*chuckles* Elder Son was mentioning some stuff about that place earlier today. Quite entertaining. Also sounds like a walk through time. If you're not careful, you might wind up somewhen-else.

It'll probably show up in a story some day. Gary Morgan's hideout in the forthcoming DRAGON'S TEETH actually exists downtown -- across the street and up a bit from my current project.
