To be honest, "ready-fire-aim!" - or, more accurately, "ready-fire-steer" - was pretty much standard procedure for launching Mk. 48 torpedoes back on the old Usetafish, especially if a Bad Guy managed to sneak into range to send a torpedo at us. OTOH, the Mk. 48 trails a very nice guidance wire behind it, as well as having enough smarts to go find its target once that wire runs out.
