We have a single purple crocus blooming, huddled tight against the sunporch foundation for borrowed warmth. Also, a mockingbird claiming the front peak of our roof for a pulpit to proclaim his worth.

And I think Mr. and Mrs. Cardinal are considering the spruce out back as a potential nursery.

Just curiostiy, but do the Maine mockingbirds sing normal birdsong-like noises, or car alarms? The ones in my former neighborhood in north Dallas surburbia sang telephone rings of all sorts, car alarms, and the same rising whistle/howl as the Wednesday tornado siren test - at somewhat less volume.

Nothing like hearing a cell phone ringing - from the peak of your neighbor's roof - while out gardening to give a moment of 'what??!' to your day.

Ours are newcomers to the area, having wandered into the state in the last few years. They generally do birdsongs, but I have heard a pretty convincing chainsaw imitation, and another time wondered what an ambulance siren was doing up in the top of a maple tree...
