Wednesday floral report
Jul. 7th, 2021 12:52 pmGoldenrod blooming, at least two species. Also, first wild tansy that escaped the roadside mowers, and Queen Anne's lace. Both wood-sorrel and cinquefoil yellow by the roadside.
Had a raptor flash across my path out near the base, low enough that I saw back rather than belly. Brown, banded tail, crow-sized or larger. I'm guessing immature Coopers hawk even though I've seen peregrines out there. I think I would have noticed the greater wingspan of a peregrine. Also, a mockingbird running off a couple of crows.
Metal birds limited to a parked C-5A and a KC-135 taxiing for takeoff behind a Cessna or other single-engined tricycle. Difference of scale.
Across town, over hill and dale, home again. Did not die.
