Ancestral artifact reassembled. The lid even closes and locks. There is permanent damage, some of which occurred before shipping.

Did it go "zip" when it moved and "bop" when it stopped?

No, nor "whirr" when it stands still. This is an old jewelry box of wood marquetry that lore suggests was made by a great uncle of my mother's and thus well over a century old. Some of the inlay has been coming loose for years, but the serious damage was split miter-and-spline corners from being packed wrong so that the weight of the heavy mirrored lid pulled the back loose.
