Air temperature 46 F, wind north 11 mph gusting to 21, rain shower. We have some gaps showing on the weather radar, headed our way. Hourly forecast includes rain all the way to evening. Boring. Still not building an ark. No more water, the fire next time.

Question of the day/week/month/year -- What are all the public antics distracting you from?

Dear *congress-person*,
I am calling on you to oppose the administration's push to de-fund public broadcasting. They call it "biased." Their real complaint is that it doesn't represent their own bias. It isn't just the news reporting, which presents viewpoints and facts that contradict the aims of the current regime. It is also programs such as "Nature" and "Nova" that present science and a view of the real world that the administration doesn't want people to see, and even the children's programming that teaches values like inclusion and personal worth offensive to a totalitarian mind. This is censorship, pure and simple. Stand against it. Keep public broadcasting on the air for the people of Maine.
Thank you,
James A. Hetley

No hummingbird report so far. I suspect our tiny neighbor is perched somewhere out of the wind and rain, sitting it out in "torpor" like a wise bird. They have to have evolved strategies for this, because we have this kind of siege every year.

Hummingbird is now perched in the azalea bush. Still raining. Have to imagine that the nectar supply in the upper flowers is diluted, but lower blossoms may be protected.
