Summer is early

Air temperature 57 F, wind southerly about 5 mph, mostly cloudy. Will probably try to get a bike ride in this morning -- forecast is 3 days of 90+ F setting in tomorrow. Maine isn't supposed to do that.

Weather report of light rain at the airport. As this would be the goal of my bike ride, I think I'll hold off until later . . .

Morning catbird news

One parent sitting on nest. Food shuttles continue. Baby beaks seen, but no useful count. More than one seems probable.

Minor amusements

City crew doing their usual mowing in the park. And a flock of starlings and grackles is doing their usual cleanup of partial bugs left in the mowers' wake. I think they follow the sound of mowers.

Monday floral report

First brown-eyed susans out in the wild, hostas are shoving out flowers in some beds in town, and the orange hawkweed has spread in that direction as well. Maybe some hop-clover and rabbit's-foot clover by the roadside, but not prominent yet. Day lilies starting to bloom.

Roadkill limited to a couple of flattened gray squirrels. Keep the coyotes and bobcats fed.

Only metal bird seen was a charter up near the military side of things. I couldn't identify the brand.

Biked across to the airport and back, got sprinkled on but not soaked, more wind than I would have preferred. Did not die.
