Apr. 30th, 2024 12:33 pmFirst woodchuck of spring, grazing in a lawn as we headed home from foraging. And, in the rodent department, I haven't seen our front porch chipmunk(s) yet this year. Maybe they didn't survive the winter and hungry wildlife.
Anyway, our azalea buds are starting to open. Pass the word to the hummingbirds.

Tuesday flora report
Apr. 30th, 2024 03:56 pmSkunk cabbage up in the bog, faint green haze showing on the tamaracks, Canada mayflower leaves in the woods, leaves on the lupines but no flower spikes yet. And bluets in the grass.
Six or eight geese at the cemetery pond, couple of ducks. Couldn't tell if the latter were mallards or the pair of mergansers I saw last time through. No roadkill, unless you count the roads.
Temperature above 60 F, little wind, got out on the bike. Upriver to the golf course, across to the road through the bog, thence home over hill and dale. First full loop of the year. Route looks safe for the road bike.
