Air temperature 55 F, wind southeast 23 mph gusting over 40, rain. Weather radar shows rain as far south as Virginia, expected to ebb and flow all day. Maybe as much as 3" to 4" here. Power still on, staying warm and dry.

Air temperature 56 F at the airport, which may tie a record for the date. Wind gusting over 50 mph. Rain. Still have power.

Wind and rain continue -- 59 F, wind gusting to 60 mph. We still have power, but about 250,000 of our neighbors don't. Meanwhile, plumber and power-snake have been and gone, and that sink now drains.

Power was out for about 15 minutes, back on now. We presume that they traced out the damage and restored power after isolating it. Utilities are not able to put workers up in bucket lifts to actually repair damage until the wind drops below 30 mph. Recent gusts 60 mph plus.

Also, cable TV is out. They'd better get that fixed before tonight's Jeopardy! broadcast. And Monday football.

In more important outage news, our neighbors up the side street are still freezing in the dark.

Wind has died down, no rain when I checked outside. River flood warnings here and there. Not as much water in the basement as I expected. Except for the dripping zone valve on the hot water heat, which should be repaired tomorrow. Inshallah.

Power company line crews will probably not start work until daylight. The song of the chainsaw shall be heard in the land.
