Winter hanging on

Air temperature 36 F, southeast wind about 8 mph, rain shower. Weather radar shows snow just a few miles off, within my normal weekday bike ride. Not starting the bike season yet.

Minor amusements

Just put the sunflower seedball back up outside the kitchen window. It had ended up in a snowbank a while back, and the snowbank is departing. Anyway, had three chickadees supervising me, including a couple of flights down to eye level. And some chickadee noise that I translate as "About damned time!"

However, I have not actually seen a chickadee nabbing seeds since I finished up and went back inside. Guess I took too long.

Garbage gull patrol

We have enough bare ground showing over at the park for the gulls to be working it for any goodies thawed out of the remaining snow. Probably ring-bills, since that is the most common species in this area. Maybe a couple-dozen spread out.
