Waiting for the storm

Air temperature 34 F, wind northeast about 9 mph, cloudy with snow showing on the weather radar. We may or may not get out to forage later -- yesterday's forecast didn't have our snow starting until after noon. Won't starve for a while if we are trapped.

Seasonal portents

Turkey vultures circling out near the interstate highway. Just about on time for the winter's roadkill to thaw out of the snowbanks . . .

And we got our foraging in before the latest snow arrived.

Going to the birds

Flock of 50+ waxwings swarming an ornamental fruit tree on my afternoon walk. Also, three geese across my path, low, calling. I suspect those are overwinter birds rather than migrants.

Got out for a walk before the storm, windy, but did not die. Did meet up with Louie for some quality time.
