Plan to take the window AC unit out today, for winter storage. If this means temperatures in the 80s F the next couple of weeks, so be it . . .

We've just closed the window over the kitchen sink, about two weeks early. Which will probably bring on those 80-degree days you mentioned.

But it was 26F in our back yard last night, so.

I turned on my furnace for the first time this fall. (Having lived with a swamp cooler for twenty years, I have to choke back tears of joy every time I can switch from AC to heat with the simple shift of a wall control. You never know what you've got til it's gone (and thank heaven it's gone)).
