Spring delayed again

Air temperature 40 F, wind west at 12 mph gusting over 20, sky clear. Frost overnight -- our frost-free date for gardening is around the end of May.

One of the houses on my standard bike route has a truckload of tree-length firewood in their side yard. If you had asked me, I would have said they get a fresh load, cut it up, and use it every year. On my latest pass through there, I noticed mushrooms growing on the trunks . . .
