Gray again, bird update
We were supposed to get rain or snow overnight. Hasn't happened yet, but the sky gives me the impression that that has been filed under "Pending Business" . . .
Some blotch-finches at the feeder this morning, molting goldfinches. No sign of the redpolls yesterday or yet this morning. I suspect that if we do see those again, they will represent a different flock passing through.
Brown-headed cowbirds mixed in with the grackles and starlings. Evil!
Saw a pair of ducks up at the cemetery pond the other day, automatically assumed mallards. Then one went "gloop" and vanished. Then the other. Hooded mergansers, gone fishing.
Wife reports ice-out on the nature center lake, also wood frogs quacking.
