A small jest from the world of web-comics

For fans of Douglas Adams, or owners of the Amazon "Kindle" e-reader . . .

Weather (again)

Overnight low 3 F, projected high mid-30s.  This will play hell with snow conditions, one reason why I crammed the ski trip into yesterday.  As it was, I had problems with skiing from sun into shadow -- skis would pick up moisture from the surface, then drag by collecting cold dry snow . . .

Rain forecast for Friday.  Local cross-country ski race and tour scheduled for Sunday.  Of course.

Post-human

One strange aspect of summer-tourist towns in winter -- yesterday's drive had a bit of a post-apocalyptic flavor.  Amusement parks in fields of undisturbed snow, motels and restaurants blocked in by snowplow berms, even park toilets behind drifts with doors half-buried.  Roads abandoned to the windswept ice.

Mankind has left for warmer climes and brave new worlds.

Another man done gone

According to a post on sff.net:

Philip Jose Farmer, 1918-2009

"To your scattered bodies, go . . ."
