Broken record

Metaphorically.

Newspaper walk temperature -15 F.  This is not a record low.

I am getting confusing reports from the local weather-twerp and weather-twit.  Yesterday's -41 F seems to be properly applied to Presque Isle rather than Clayton Lake, for example, and one of them mentioned another -50 F that has not been recorded by any other source.

Sowing panic and dissension, they proceed . . .

Indifference

Received the Nebula Awards preliminary ballot in today's mail, being as I am a card-carrying* member of the SFWA.  Glanced over it, and realized I haven't read a single item on the ballot.  In a few cases on the novel list, I had the book in hand and lost interest after the first few pages.  In other cases, the book never showed up in our library, the source of most of my reading.  And I don't subscribe to magazines, to read the shorter-length entries.

Guess I won't bother to vote this year.

Wouldn't be the first time that a novel won, that didn't interest me enough to finish reading.

*Damned if I know why I put that in my wallet . . .

About those weather-critters

We now have a winter storm warning for tomorrow, anywhere between 8" and 15" of snow.  This depends, as usual, where they move our city in the coast/inland/mountains designation.

Maybe some mixing on the immediate coast.

Wife asked if she could return that forecast for a refund.

Innocent sky

Clear stars, including the high moving ones that flash (we're under the "great circle" route to Europe, so usually have some planes messing up our constellations.)  Smoke drifting on light and variable winds.  Approximately zero F.

But we know that storm is out there.

Quiet.  Too quiet . . .
