Sunday roadkill report
Jul. 20th, 2008 11:21 amCouple of flat painted turtles and a porcupine out in the bog, scraps of squirrel elsewhere. Little enough to show for all those miles of Maine backwoods asphalt. I did smell a skunk at one point, but no corpse, so the polecat may have won that bout.
Foggy morning, dew point and temperature colliding, with prospect of a steam bath later, so I got out on the bike as soon as the sun came out and the road had dried. And, being a wimp, I played my "old man" card and stuck with a shorter ride. Headed upriver on an inland route, then crossed over and headed home. Goldenrod starting to bloom.
Unlike previous weekends, saw very few other bikes out. Maybe something in the way of an organized ride? Or they showed more sense than I did?
Elder Son's bike sold at the yard sale, someone who rode it home, but the backpacks and the Korean War poncho languish unclaimed.
