Okay, just noticed (well, Wife just noticed, and called my attention to the fact) that some supreme idiot in the administration at Younger Son's university scheduled graduation for Memorial Day weekend.  Which leaves us sharing the highway down and back with Major Tourist Traffic.

Oh, well, maybe the high gas prices will make everyone else stay home.

Sunny today, temperatures predicted to reach around 60 F, but winds gusting up to 25 or 30 mph.  Maybe bike ride, maybe not.

No roadkill.  Again.  Not-roadkill, a woodchuck galumphing across the road in front of me -- the grass is always greener on the other side of the road.  And I imagine that Brother Chuck would say he was galloping, and gracefully at that.  Trust me, he was galumphing.

Temperature rebounded all the way to 60 F, and I decided I'd rather battle the wind than watch a poker tournament on TV.  What is with weekend network TV these days?  Don't they know there's hockey playoffs?

Anyway, biked upriver to the Big U and around the ghost town that is a college campus on the day after graduation.  If you doubt the wind, I'll add that I hit 25 MPH on level stretches coming back downwind,  and 15 MPH on uphills.  This for a guy who averages 14 MPH on the same route...

Younger Son will be amused to hear that the housing complex that the U kicked him out of in his senior year, because they were going to tear it down, is still standing.

And you thought we wanted to improve medical care for wounded vets?

In brief, soldiers are surviving wounds that would have killed them in earlier wars.  We're (well, you are, probably not me) still going to be paying for this forty, fifty years from now.
