Going by the weather forecast of temperatures approaching 60 F in the next few days, we may declare a snow-free zone.  As in, the last disgusting remnants of snow-piles in the yard (deep in the shadows) may vanish.

That still leaves the ground frozen in those areas.  Local tradition calls for planting peas on Patriots' Day, or April 19th for you heathens outside New England.  I suspect the soil will not yet be workable at that point...

Again nothing dead on the road, unless you allow me to count the bits of shattered auto.  Was a woodchuck-sized blood splot in the middle of one lane, but no corpse and it could have been someone's beloved puddy-tat.

Temperature in the upper 40s F, which I have previously declared to be close-enough to bicycle weather, in the absence of serious wind.  Considered doing the whole weekday route, but declared chickenhood when I reached the golf course and turned back, due to the combination of cold and breeze and wearing jeans rather than bike shorts and riding the mountain bike instead of the road bike and early in the season and general wimpitude.  Heard a phoebe declaim possession of all bugs.  No ducks in the cemetery pond.

Heard the canned music (Scott Joplin) of the Good Humor ice cream truck in the distance.  This while snow still lies on the ground...

Granted, the sun shines down from a pale blue sky, but weather.com gives our current temperature as 54 F.
