But is his check good?
Jan. 20th, 2008 09:20 amGot one of those off-the-wall business calls yesterday, basic problem of running a home office -- people know that you answer the phone, evenings and weekends. Anyway, I recognized the voice. He makes his living by his voice, after all. Local minister, of the sort that makes me cringe when I think of Huckabee as president. Various murky episodes in the past, that sort of thing.
Anyway, he wanted a quick guess on the cost to add 7 or 8 classrooms to his current church, which I designed maybe fifteen years ago. And wondered if I'd be interested in doing the addition. Just talking with him makes my skin crawl.
But Wife gets right to the point -- did the checks bounce? Thus doth the prospect of cash make prostitutes of us all.
(Another evening call, the night before, was the offer of working with more pigeons, downtown. That one poses no moral dilemma.)
