Regarding "pirated" copyright work, and a website I'm not going to advertise.
As far as I can tell, that website does serve as a den of thieves. Yes, some of the works available there are in the public domain, or have been released by their authors. Evidence shows that enough works are there without permission of the copyright holder to characterize the site as a pirate's den. And I'm not talking about Big Business, Sony BMG Music or ABC or The Mouse, but about people like me with a few books out -- people who would like to get paid a little for the year or so of work it took us to get that thing into print.
Me, I'm not bright enough to chase down copies of things on the internet. I don't know if I've been pirated, and don't know what I'd do about it if I found out -- my big problem as an author is obscurity, not illegal copies.
Still, I own those words. Own the right to decide who can copy them and profit by them. Says so right in the front.
