Sunday roadkill report
Jun. 10th, 2007 12:53 pmTwo mummified and tattered woodchucks, one near the university and the other across the river from the paper mill. Also a squashed muskrat in the gutter on North Main.
Partly cloudy, little wind, temperatures in the upper 60s F, so I dragged my sorry butt and bicycle upriver. Crossed the Temporary Bridge O' Doom* without mishap and pedaled down the other side of the river. Lupines! Purple and pink and a few white lupines, yellow hawkweed, wild daisies, vetch, a patch or two of butter-and-eggs. The paper mill just restarted pulping operations, giving me a good bracing whiff of sulfur to clear my lungs of all that nasty North Woods spruce pitch and oxygen.
I shall now revert to a lazy bum for the rest of the day.
26.59 miles, 1:58:50
*Not to be confused with Brigadoon, or I would have noticed a century's gap in posting dates on Live Journal.
