Okay, this being a bright and shiny and optimistic morning, I tried again to install that all-in-one printer and associated scanner/image manager software. Again, it killed access to the laser printer. I "repaired permissions", whatever the hell _that_ means in the Mac world.* Then MSWord wouldn't open...

I shut the computer down, started it up, and everything _seems_ to work at this point. I can print to either laser or inkjet from several applications. I can open Word documents. I can access the internet.

Wife says that she is amazed at the level of silence involved in all these steps. She thinks the computer and both printers should be in low-earth orbit by now.

*Hey, my computer experience goes back to punch card decks and an IBM 7090, DEC PDP-8, mechanical teletypes for remote terminals, Fortran and flat-bed plotters. I still don't know what "repair permissions" means.
