Hey, I thought the change from Win to Mac would end this shit...

I have yet to understand why a brand new computer needs hundreds of megabytes of software updates...

Good thing I got the DSL up and running.

In other news, I have used this thing to add actual words to POWERS, both yesterday and today. This, after dredging into the depths of dusty memory for the various ways I customized MSWord to show what I wanted to see and do what I wanted it to do. And _not_ do things it thinks are good, like the everlastingly-to-be-damned "smart quotes."

Still cold this morning, subzero even, with prospect of wind later. The prophets are offering us a chance at warming for the weekend. With possible mixed precipitation.

Further minor triumphs of the computing world

Well, I just go the iMac to talk to our ancient HP all-in-one. Only took the download of 60+MB of driver/installer software, but we now have Color! and Scanner! available.

Also received a fax on the new machine this morning. Well, it was a spam-fax for an 11-day 8-night vacation offer, but at least I didn't have to pay to print some damnfool's ad...

Thus do we muddle along into The Century of the Fruitbat.

Oh, arrgh.

So much for minor technological triumphs. Now the Mac won't print to the laser printer. It worked fine before installing that inkjet driver.

The laser still shows up in the printer menu. Programs _say_ that they are printing. But nothing ever happens.

If anybody out there understands HP printers, HP drivers, and Macs, I'd appreciate a suggestion. I'd rather have the laser working than the inkjet, dammit!
