Well, aftermath, anyway. We seem to have received about 6" of mixed snow and light freezing rain. I ran the snowblower at dusk yesterday, and now see about an inch or two of new stuff out there. Will release the cars for use and see Wife on her rounds, then maybe suit up for a (short) ski outing at the city forest. Since this layer comes on top of bare ground, I will have to stick to smooth bike trails or risk broken skis.

Sunshine this morning, temps about 15 F, wind. Supposed to go negative tonight, with more wind. Normal Maine winter has returned.

Wife has looked upon the tentative first chapter of POWERS and has declared that I had better finish the thing. Don't know, of course, whether that means she wants to read it or just doesn't want to live with a grumpy non-writing writer...

Proof of concept -- 6" of snow represents sufficient cover for skis on a gravel surface.

Since this was my first ski run since Methuselah was a tyke (only slight exaggeration) I held the distance down to about 2 miles and half an hour. Since this was my first etc., I still expect various muscle groups and joints to file grievances with the shop steward. We'll hold the arbitration meeting tomorrow.

Wind-chill tonight and tomorrow is supposed to hit those negative levels where it don't matter whether you're using degrees F or degrees C -- they all come out the same.
