Raining.

Also windy and near-record warmth -- temperature in the 60s F when I got up this morning. T'ain't natural, and No Good Will Come Of It. Literally -- flood watches and warnings scattered about the state, high wind warnings, gale warning on the water.

And an idiot down the street put a bunch of cardboard out for trash day, without weighting it down. Various pieces scattered about, cardboard mush in the street, etc.

With autumn leaves blocking the catch basins and forming ponds in the road.

Don't know if I'll venture down to the pigeon loft for my weekly check on progress. Not nice out there.

I just got a couple of boxes (left on the back steps in a soaking gale...) of books, trade paperback of DRAGON'S TEETH and mass-market of DRAGON'S EYE. If any of you nice folks want to order a personally-inscribed copy direct from the Critically Acclaimed Author, this is your chance.

Anyway, the dining room table is now covered in stacks of books, which seem to have escaped The Wet. The boxes, on the other hand, languish in my workshop until they dry out and can reclaim their contents...

From sff.net:

"Michigan coaching legend Bo Schembechler has died after collapsing Friday morning, Detroit-area television station WXYZ reported. He was 77."

The days of our youth pass...Wife and I attended Michigan during the Schembechler era.

In asking "What can Brown do for you?", the UPS folks apparently haven't thought about putting packages under available shelter. Yeah, they bagged the boxes in loose plastic*. But they left the package on our back steps, when we have a _large_ covered front porch, and the front door is recessed further in from that...

*Loose enough that the wind and drenching rain _did_ penetrate.
