One Northern Water Snake that should have stayed in the water, two muskrats that rambled in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Sunny, very little wind, temperatures threatened to reach or pass 80 F, so I hied myself hence on the bike. Lilacs still putting on a good show, and the first lupines are starting to bloom. Also a snow flurry in May, with the poplars dumping their fuzz on the breeze. Hummingbird at the nature center when I stopped by for reptile roadkill identification. Note to the class: Northern Water Snakes show a fairly high level of variation. We keyed the critter out as much on what it _wasn't_ as on the official mug-shots.

Minor puzzlement from the proofreading department. Why, when my Nice Editor Lady receives a disc with an electronic file of DRAGON'S TEETH, is the typeset product obviously created by hand rather than by use of said electronic file? Typos like "lust" for "just" and "heir" for "her" were not in the original submission...
