Tribal governor of one of the Passamaquoddy bands died the other night, his pickup skidded on black ice and slid into an oncoming truck. Classic Route 9 winter accident. He was heading home from a media to-do celebrating the arrival of fuel aid (from Venezuela) for the folks on Indian Island.

There's this long tradition, speak no ill of the dead. But in this case, the guy was truly a good man. I worked with him on a couple of projects down on the Pleasant Point reservation, offices for the housing authority and renovations to the school, and found him a joy to work with. He will be missed.

Forget about the ski reports for a while. We're down to bare grass (or mud) and have another inch or two of rain predicted for today. Colder tomorrow, with the storm tailing off to snow, but only a dusting here along the coast. Temperature this morning hovers around 50 F (10 C).

Looks like Wife is gonna have some technical difficulties with the "Winter Walks" scheduled out at the nature center....

Added words to SIGNATURES this morning. Subtracted words. Moved words around. Tomorrow, I'll look them over and do more of the same and print off Chapter IX. Keep it up long enough and I'll have a draft.

Make it a Sam Adams, please.

And that's pretty much the sum of it, for anyone who's interested in how I work. Nothing esoteric, just sitting down and telling myself a story to see how it comes out. The best comparison I've come up with is from one of my grandmother's recipes, "Add flour until the dough looks right."
