Temperature at plus/minus freezing, so we have some adhesion occurring -- mostly a dusting, which makes for interesting patterns of white and thaw and could probably be used to trace subgrade archaeological features. For example, you can draw up the original pattern of walkways in the neighborhood park, based on melt patterns. We knew about that cistern out in the street long before it started to collapse, because the winter ice thawed differently over all those thousands of gallons of water....
