(Wry amusement, but amusement none the less.)

Item in the paper over the weekend, FEMA had an appropriation for designing an evacuation plan for New Orleans. Eight years ago. Money appears to have been spent on a study of the Lake Pontchartrain (sp?) bridge, instead.

And the ship of fools sails on....

Meanwhile, in this morning's paper, the _current_ head of the FEMA effort seems to question the wisdom of inviting a few hundred thousand people back into a city with no safe drinking water. Got to give that guy a lesson in politics. He spent too much time in uniform.

Idle thoughts -- If hurricanes represent God's wrath upon the sinners, maybe we should think a bit about _which_ sinners and _which_ sin. Maybe the problem involves screwing with His design for a finely-tuned ecosystem or something about putting our cities in silly places like swamps and sandbars....

Email from The Nice Agent Lady reports a review of DRAGON'S EYE in Publisher's Weekly, excerpted:

"This enchanting contemporary fantasy from Hetley (The Summer Country) explores themes of loyalty, love and family while providing escapist thrills and chills.... Solid writing, an evocative sense of place and delightful characters will leave readers breathlessly anticipating the promised sequel."

PW carries a bit more weight than Harriet....
