Raccoons, one excessively stinky skunk in the southbound lane of US 1A (different section than last time), one garter snake, one eastern milk snake _or_ northern water snake*, various things not seen in the roadside grass but making their presence felt (or smelled). Good to have the roadkill count back up to normal.

Showers this morning, then sun, now showers again. I modified the ride accordingly, staying in loops around town here rather than the longer run I had planned. This way, I was never more than 5 or 6 miles away from dry, rather than the 20+ possible on the other route. Got sprinkled a bit just as I got back home, not that I got any damper than I was already by that point.

36 miles, 2:42:30 -- mileage totals are lagging, need more rides...

*Roadkill taxonomy can get a little vague, depending on the number of wheels that have passed post-mortem.

Returning from our evening walk, Wife and I saw a distinctive hump-backed shape scuttle across the sidewalk in front of us and vanish into the shadows. Raccoon, large, active, checking out the gas grills and garbage cans for any delectables.

One reason why I didn't want to try the poisoned catfood method on those yellow-jackets.
