The Sunday roadkill report
Jul. 3rd, 2005 12:33 pmDead raccoons, woodchucks, porcupines, and turtles. Plus a pathetic little cedar waxwing lying on the road shoulder, looking undamaged.
Some critters, like the waxwing and deer, move fast enough that sometimes you can't avoid hitting them. Not turtles, not porcupines. Pay attention to the road, folks -- would you drive better with that cell phone up your ass? Also, you don't need to honk when you pass a bicyclist -- I already know you're there, heard you coming a mile back.
Beautiful day, light wind, sun, low humidity, temperatures in the upper 70s F. Bicycled out to the nearest lake and thence upriver to the next bridge and across and down, lots of wildflowers, some of the farmers are _finally_ getting a chance to mow their hay. Good dryin' weather.
Cooper's hawk surveying his realm from a power line, didn't like me much when I circled back for a closer look. Too big for lunch, I guess.
