Windy today, after morning rain. A lot of leaves have come down, but the show is still good. If you live in an area with white pines, they are losing needles as well, carpeting the ground with yellow roller bearings. Slippery when wet.

Headed upriver on the bike ride, comfortable enough that I was considering a run up to the next town and the bridge there. Then I noticed the flag at the golf course, straight out and showing all its stripes. Wind at my back then, so in my face coming back. Decided on the classic "better part of valour" and headed home. Took longer going that way....

The problem is, the Red Sox aren't total losers. They win enough games to raise their fans' hopes, but never enough to satisfy. If they lost all the time, like the Cubs used to, or the Braves when I lived in Atlanta, the fans wouldn't suffer this roller-coaster ride. Used to go to Braves games and never care if they lost, just watched the game and enjoyed the good players on both sides. I had just as much fun watching the Atlanta Crackers in the old Ponce de Leon ballpark with the trains running across the right field fence.
