Items in SCIENCE NEWS, this week and last(?), about ground squirrels. The previous item told how the little rodents used their tails as decoys when taunting rattlesnakes -- increased blood flow causes the tail to heat up, distracting the snake's infrared detectors. The squirrel doesn't increase blood flow when taunting gopher snakes, another natural enemy but one that lacks IR tracking. These are the same rodents that are somewhat immune to rattlesnake venom....

Then this week, how ground squirrels use ultrasound alarm calls to warn of predators.

You ever try to keep squirrels out of bird feeders? The rodents are gonna take over the world.
