Mini paving crew at work on the street -- patching in the spots where they cut out for catch basins, replacing driveway aprons ravaged by the hordes of death and destruction, even replacing the sidewalk sections ditto. They're racing the clock, or calendar, to get asphalt in place before the glaciers grind down from the north. Or before the paving plant closes for the winter, whichever comes first. Maybe we'll get our road back some day.

Mix of sun and showers today, with a cold front moving through. High temperatures reached in the morning, maybe 52 F, and then downhill. Freeze tonight.

Amazon.com now admits to shipping DRAGON'S EYE. The sales ranking was up to 15,000 +/- this morning, not best-seller or nose-bleed territory but better than the six-digit figures it was showing when the book was in pre-order. A big "thank you" to all the folks who have bought it -- now go back and buy more copies to give to friends and relations and random strangers on the street.

Oh, and that Klausner review is now posted on Amazon. Hope it shills in a few browsing "marks"....

The local independent bookstore did not have DRAGON'S EYE on the shelves when I sauntered in this evening. They were, however, eager to order me a copy - and as I generally prefer to support local independent bookstores, particularly ones that are literally just down the road a piece, I allowed them to so order.

So within a few days, I should be able to earn those thanks. And, presumably, have a few of my own to dish out.

By _all_ means patronize the local bookstore. One local sale may be worth two on Amazon, as the local store then has incentive to STOCK THE DAMN BOOK. Sorry about the shouting. But if a bookstore stocks an actual physical book, people who never _heard_ of the author can see the lovely book and touch it and sniff it and taste it and decide to take it home.
