Candlemas morning

Hope that you still have at least half your wood and half your hay. Air temperature 29 F, wind north about 7 mph, overcast with scattered snowflakes. We have recovered a little over an hour of daylight from the Stygian depths of the solstice.

I never had to worry about hay, thank goodness (though we know people who do), but I remember fretting about the state of the February woodpile back in our basement-furnace days. We never quite ran out, fortunately, but a couple of times it was a damned close-run thing. (As the Duke of Wellington supposedly said about Waterloo.)
