As in "noxious."

Well, that was the "Check Engine" light. The NOX sensor, a part of the ignition computer loop that sets timing and such. Not something I can ignore, especially since that car is going to need a round trip down to UNH at interstate highway speeds next month, delivering Younger Son back to grad school along with more Stuff for his apartment.

A little under $300, to keep a '95 car on the road. A car that only gets about 2500 miles on it in the course of a year. Classic example of American wasteful habits, two cars for two people, all that Green chic rant. Hey, at least we are responsible enough that our two mini-SUVs average 25 mpg.

According to the service write-up, that is actually "Knock Sensor" rather than "NOX Sensor." The machine has one of those _also_. Ain't English such a wunnerful language?

Believe me, it's worse when you live with a mechanic-type. We have EIGHT cars in our driveway and back yard:

1) the Big Con Van
2) Russ' around-town Escort wagon
3) my around-town Grand Caravan, which doubles as a smaller con vehicle (currently non-functional due to a blown head gasket which hasn't been fixed yet)
4) my old silver Stanza wagon (non-functional due to dead transmission)
5) a blue Stanza wagon (semi-functional; the intent is to make one working car from the better parts of these two)
6) an old white Escort wagon technically belonging to Russ' ex (needs work)
7) an old Taurus needing a transmission, which Russ keeps saying he's going to fix up and donate to the Kidney Fund, but he's been saying that for at least the 5 years since I moved here
8) a teal Escort wagon, also technically belonging to the ex, which is being held for Blair's eventual use; it needs minor repairs, but actually runs

Sometimes I feel as though I never left Tennessee. :)

Sounds like a Maine dooryard.
