Steam bath

Thunderstorms and copious rain last night, fog for my morning newspaper walk, sun and steam for the bike ride. The weather gods are supposed to give us more rain and thunderstorms this evening, then cooler. We'll see.

GHOST POINT revisions are complete, I will kill more trees this afternoon and mail the manuscript back to the Nice Agent Lady, who will not actually receive same until she returns from WorldCon in Scotland.  No real rush -- Ace already has DRAGON'S TEETH in the hopper for next year.

Finished reading THE PRODIGAL TROLL, [profile] ccfinlay's debut novel.  A good read, though he forgot to give us an ending.  I assume there will be a sequel?

The asterix on the bike ride statistics indicates that timings will no longer be comparable.  Navigating the gravel and construction in our block adds at least a minute, and variable amounts beyond that.  Fie upon those who would interfere with my numbers!

*g* Well, I thought it was an ending when I wrote it. But you're not the only reader to make this comment, and I always did plan to write more about the character, so perhaps the readers know better than I did.

I've struggled with the sequel on and off for the past two years, but I just chucked 40K words of it, and started rewriting the B plot over from the ground up (only I'm thinking it may really be the A plot), and I feel much better about it now.

The readers _always_ know more than the writer does. Witness the reviews on amazon.com....

Glad to hear you are whipping the beast into submission. Books can be difficult that way. Show it who's boss.

Huh. Cause I remember reading early chapters of The Summer Country before it was published and being dead wrong about them....

Spoken like someone who's been there. Thanks for the advice.

should those of us at Worldcon let Nice Agent Lady that we're very eager for the next book?

Well, this isn't the next book, or even the next next book, but yes. A resounding yes. Pickets outside the venue DEMANDING more books from that infamous James A. Hetley would not be taken amiss.

Although the editorial staff at Ace might be a better strategic target....
