How many people take tribalism in small measure, though? That thing kills people.

Agreed - that's why I was only willing to say what I did with careful caveats. I went to The Ohio State University for grad school, and I don't think anyone went out hunting for Michigan-lovers, but I wouldn't have been surprised if a shouting match turned physical (for example)... and while I'd be surprised if something worse happened, it wouldn't be like a piece of fiction that breaks my suspension of disbelief. (OSU vs Michigan is one of "those" games - where even a lot of people who don't care about football, much less college football, might have heard of the rivalry.)

Wife and I went to Michigan, she has cousins that went to OSU. Her father played football for OSU, back in ancient days.

I'd rate the OSU fans as much more rabid.
