THE WELL OF LOST PLOTS and I managed to meet in the library and elope. That's the only Thursday Next book I haven't snagged yet....

(Nice Librarian Lady saw that in my pile of goodies and asked if I'd read the others. Says there's a new series starting, featuring Jack Sprat and Mistress Mary. Drool.)

Still haven't seen the library's possibly-mythical copy of WINTER OAK. It's always out, which is not a bad thing. A bit of a weird feeling, that, finding something I wrote in a library or bookstore.

I finally admitted defeat and ordered both "Winter Oak" and "Summer Country" from amazon. Despite having multiple instances of Half-Price Books, Borders, and B&N here in Austin (as well as multitudinous other book stores), I have been unable to locate any of your works in Central Texas.

I didn't try the library because I just can't give books back. my precioussssss, mine.....

Hmpf. Borders _should_ have them, B&N _should_ have them. Dunno from Half-Price, but inventory tracking for Borders shows both books in stock at six different locations.... Ah, the wonders of the internet.

I looked at B&N in three places (Aorboretum, Ben White/South Lamar, Round Rock), Borders in two (Arboretum and Ben White/South Lamar), and Half-Price in five. I should have them clutched in my sweaty palms in less than a week.

I wanted to get them in sequence, and, for the longest time, when I went for 'Summer Country', all I could find was 'Winter Oak.' I did a quick write-up of the quest (and it almost becomes a real review!) here (http://www.livejournal.com/community/50bookchallenge/3455011.html).

Yeah, ain't it? There's something surreal about looking at "all those shelves of books* and recognising your name somewhere in there. It always feels like a practical joke, like someone printed the spine off on a colour laser and stuck it on some other book and when you pick it up there's no WAY that it can ever be... but it is... it really is an odd feeling.

(It's an order of magnitude worse when you're presented with a copy of your work in a language you do not speak. The illusion of being fluent in said language, because you can "recognise" a scene and your mind translates it straight back into English, is positively uncanny...)

Precisely my feelings when my agent sent along copies of SUMMER COUNTRY in French. (Yeah, typical provincial Yank, monoglot. French isn't nearly as esoteric as some of your translations.)
