Sarcasm aside, I do understand that desperate times call for desperate measures. I just wish that the people who got us into this mess were actually going to be held more accountable.

Them too, as well as Bush the Elder, though Ron is beyond anything we can do to him now. However, I was thinking of all the rapacious CEOs who happily built up the house of cards.

Those rapacious CEOs built on people who weren't willing to live within their means. This is true for private citizens and for government from local to national level -- even with a legal mandate for balanced budgets, Maine has been living beyond its means for decades. Witness the fact that we can't keep the infrastructure from falling down around our ears.

And as for government levels that *can* run deficits . . .
