There's stubborn and then . . .

BBC World News has a reporter on Galveston Island.  He interviewed several people who planned to ride out the storm.  With a predicted storm surge higher than the high point on the island . . .

Kinda reminds you of Harry Truman, late of Spirit Lake Lodge just downstream from Mount St. Helens, eh?

You know, I've always wondered about Harry. Considering that he was planning to hole up in a lava cave close to his lodge, I always wondered if he was asleep in the lodge when St. Helens blew up, if he was on his way to the cave when the shock wave hit him, or if he actually made it there before being buried alive in the mudflow. In 2010, I think it might be time to try excavating the cave to find out: I keep getting this odd picture of someone digging through to find him with 50 years of food, muttering "About damn time you got here."

I can't really fault the guy. Sometimes you just have to stand your ground . . .

He was old enough to know what he was doing.

From what I saw, they looked old enough to have reproduced already.
