Preemptive strike

Mowed lawn ("Yard"? -- hard to call our Darwinic assembly a "lawn"...) this morning, a few days off schedule, as They are predicting temps up into the 80s for the weekend.  Plus, bike ride off-schedule tomorrow and a big-ass (as in, three times the population of our fair village) music festival scheduled Friday through Sunday.

The days are just packed.

"Retention pond" serves the same purpose on a larger scale.

We don't have much trouble with runoff in our 60' x 120' lot, due to fairly permeable soil. Houses like ours used to dump the roof water through gutters and downspouts into basement cisterns, then later into the sewers. No longer.

I just found out about rain gardens last weekend. Apparently they're quite the thing for new developments here in Maryland. They seem like a great idea, and they break up the monotony of the suburban lawn.
