Blueberries

Picked our first batch of Maine low-bush blueberries from the side yard yesterday evening.  This is an ornamental planting, just a few square feet of bushes, but they almost glow blue this year.  Judging by that, the commercial harvest looks good.

I think blueberries are doing well everywhere this year. The Texas crops are so thick that every grocery store around is running extensive sales, and these are some of the best blueberries I've ever had. (In fact, I just finished off a pint for breakfast, and I wish I had more on hand.) This Sunday, the Czarina and I head out to Athens, Texas to pick blueberries out there, and that's when we'll find out exactly how good it is in East Texas for blueberry farmers.
