Raining

Well, the weather is performing to advertisement.

And either the internet or Live Journal is running r...e...a...l s...l...o...w this morning.  I blame Live Journal, as other sites don't seem mired in molasses.

Well, you get what you pay for.  ("Free" account.)

I think it's the internet. As of last night I can hardly connect to LJ at all from my home ISP (Cox), and some other sites seem to be missing too -- Flickr, for example -- but if I go through work everything seems fine. (Except that Firefox doesn't really like running in a VNC window and segfaults every few minutes.) I did see something about a fiber-optic breakage somewhere in Texas yesterday, which may have something to do with it.

LJ seems to be up to speed this evening. As are the bands of thunderkaboomers whistling through.

Apropos of nothing in particular, Amazon.com sent me the following email the other day:
Dear Amazon.com Customer,

We've noticed that customers who have purchased or rated books by James A. Hetley have also purchased "The Touch of Twilight (Sign of the Zodiac, Book 3)" by Vicki Pettersson.
(I may check Ms. Pettersson out next time I hit the library, and see how well Amazon's correlations in this case match my tastes.)

That Amazon suggestion service seems to have at least one screw loose -- they also offer me stuff based on my buying books written by this James A. Hetley character.

Uh, no. When I want to buy my own books, I order them from the publisher...

(Actually, I'm not sure I've ever bought a book from Amazon. Did buy a DVD for Younger Son a few years back, but I think that's all.)
