Sometimes one wonders if there are any honest politicians.

I think the trouble is that we have allowed the political system to become perverted by the corrupt and the easily corruptible in a way that confers a selective advantage upon them, and thus actively selects for them. When you have the best government money can buy, your government is chosen by those with the deepest pockets.

Well, there's that grizzled old aphorism -- "An honest politician is one who stays bought."
