Supposed to have mixed precipitation tonight and rain tomorrow -- the Weather Gods originally predicted this for last night into today, but delivery has been delayed.  Must have shipped it via FedEx and it got routed to California first...

The city idiots (like village idiots but there are more of them...) are still hauling snow from the next block.  I would think more highly of the operation if the city PTBs had spread some sand and salt on our local sidewalks first, as a higher priority use for the same man-hours.  Some of the shadowed areas have turned into death-traps.  These are routes that the kids, kindergarten up to eighth grade, walk to school...

Maybe we need to issue mountaineering crampons to the students.  I know that Tiger the Cat charges across the street (in front of cars) and over the snowbanks to meet me and demand attention.  Just extends the claws for extra traction.

As someone currently laid up with a broken ankle from sidewalk ice, I can relate to this. In some cities, mine being one of them, I think residential sidewalk clearing is considered the responsibility of the homeowners in front of whose homes the sidewalks run. I have no idea whether this is true where you live, but you might want to look into it... and in any case, perhaps motivate your neighbors into doing something about those icy patches before someone slips and falls.

Our city has a similar ordinance, more honored in the breach* than in the observance. However, the sidewalks featuring in my grumpy comments _are_ plowed by the city, using little enclosed snow-cat type machines that have, in past years, carried hoppers of mixed sand and salt. This year, not.

*Or should that be "breech"?

No, I think it's "breach". As in, "breach of contract". Anyway, lucky you... I *wish* my city plowed the sidewalks. I think they've got a couple of those things, maybe, but something like 120 miles of sidewalk.

I intended the breach/breech thing as a feeble touch of humor, relating to the propensity of icy sidewalks to dump me on my ass...
