By the way, that Fujitsu has an icon on the desktop that says "Click Me." I haven't clicked it. Having read Alice in Wonderland numerous times, I tend to distrust that sort of thing...
They really ought to give a clue as to what it does. Like "Tutorial" or "Self-Destruct."
"Initiating auto-destruct sequence. Reactor will go critical in ten seconds. Nine. Eight...."

Date: 2007-11-19 03:09 am (UTC)Grrrr. That's one of those Hollywood lines I really despise. As a former professional splitter of atoms[1], I know that a fission reactor is "critical" when it's producing as many neutrons from fission as it's losing to absorption or leakage. In other words, a critical reactor is at a constant power level. If the power level is going up, the reactor is supercritical; if the power level is dropping, the reactor is sub-critical.
[1] A little bit like splitting wood, only with really good air conditioning running. And the decommissioning crew got stuck cleaning out the ashes.
